Small Decisions, Deep Liberation
Welcome
Hi — I’m Wanda.
Thank you for joining Liberating Living Weekly and for choosing to practice with us. After more than 20 years helping people align faith with finances, I know that freedom is not only an idea — it’s a daily decision. Every Sunday you’ll receive a short spiritual practice, a practical money move you can automate, and a podcast highlight to guide your week.
Today’s issue digs into what I call fear-based obedience — the ways “duty” or “holy” language can cover fear, shame, or conformity. This full-length edition gives you research-informed tools, three practical practices you can do today, a 7-day micro-challenge, and one concrete financial step to anchor brave choices. Keep reading to learn how to name chains, choose love, and create small money systems that support real freedom.

Why This Matters
Many spiritual patterns are handed down before we can test them — and some of those inherited rules become coils that tighten around our capacity to trust and choose. The good news: a combination of naming, somatic practice, and small behavioral experiments reliably loosens those coils and restores agency.
Expressive naming & writing. Putting burdens into words (journaling or expressive writing) helps people process painful memories and reduces intrusive thoughts and depressive symptoms. Naming frees cognitive space for more intentional choices. PubMed
Body-first regulation. Brief somatic practices — slow, extended exhales, grounding movement, and short rituals — activate the vagal system and reduce immediate stress, creating the felt safety needed to make different decisions. Even short breathwork sessions produce measurable reductions in state anxiety. FNHUM
Reframing (cognitive reappraisal). When we deliberately question the origin of a belief and reframe it, we create new emotional responses. Reappraisal paired with naming and somatic practice is among the most reliable emotion-regulation strategies in psychological science. PMC
Together, these three approaches — name it, settle the body, reframe the meaning — give you a practical pathway to choose love over fear and to act from aligned clarity.
Spiritual Practices
3–10 minute practice — Name, Breathe, Choose (do this now)
Sit tall with both feet on the floor. Place your right hand over your heart, left hand over your belly.
Breathe: inhale 4 / hold 2 / exhale 6 — three rounds. On each exhale imagine a gentle untying in your chest.
Ask aloud or quietly: “Is this obedience coming from love, or from fear?” Notice the felt difference — tightness, constriction, or openness.
Choose one small, love-rooted action and speak it: “I choose X.” (X = a short phrase, e.g., “I choose rest,” “I choose truth.”) Place on your phone note.
Why it works: the question creates cognitive distance; breath calms the nervous system; speaking a choice enacts a tiny behavior that shifts neural pathways.
5-minute Journaling Prompt
Set a timer for 5 minutes and answer briefly:
Where have I followed a “should” recently without asking why?
If I could answer that “should” from love (not fear), what would I do instead?
What small practical step (under 15 minutes) could I take in the next 24 hours to express that love?
Save one line of your answer as your daily phone note.
The Trust Fund
Financial Action
—
Align $ with Purpose

Why: money automations physically encode a different identity. Tiny transfers show your future self you’re serious about change.
Steps:
Open your bank app or savings tool and create a sub-savings named Courage / Trust Fund.
Automate $5 weekly (or $2 if you prefer). Set the memo:
Trust — [date].Use the fund for small acts that express trust (a coaching call, a short class, a small gift that opens relationships) or let it grow toward a braver investment.
Each time you automate or withdraw, jot one sentence: what you did and how it moved you.
Micro-ritual: When you set up the automation, say: “This is my vote for trust.”

7-Day Micro-Challenge
Recognize, Release, Reclaim
Goal: daily micro-practices combining naming, breath, a tiny action, and log the Courage Fund transfer.
Day | Practice Done (Y/N) | One-line Journal | Courage Fund Action |
|---|---|---|---|
1 | Named one “should” and asked: love or fear? | Set up fund + transfer $5 | |
2 | Practiced Name, Breathe, Choose | ||
3 | Said the counter-truth aloud | ||
4 | Took one small love-rooted action | ||
5 | Protected a joy appointment for 20 min | ||
6 | Told one supportive person what you tried | ||
7 | Review: what shifted? Plan next brave step | Reflect & plan |
Deeper exercise — Chain-Naming & Reframe
(15-20 minutes total)
Free-write this prompt for 8 minutes: “The thing I most avoid because of duty is ___.” Fill the sentence and write without judgment.
Identify the origin: who or where did this expectation come from? Name it in one sentence.
Write a short reframe in present tense: “I now choose ___.” Repeat it aloud three times and place it somewhere visible for the week.
This practice moves an abstract burden into a visible choice — and choosing aloud helps the body accept the new frame.
