Small Decisions, Deep Liberation

Welcome

Hi — I’m Wanda.

Thank you for joining Liberating Living Weekly. I’ve spent 20+ years helping people align faith and finances so freedom isn’t theoretical — it’s lived. Each Sunday I’ll send one short spiritual practice, a simple money move you can automate, and a podcast highlight to guide the week.

Ever felt like you left a conversation more exhausted than when you entered? That’s not coincidence—it’s your energy being compromised. In Part 1 of this two-part series, we’ll uncover what energetic boundaries are and how to recognize the signs of energy drain in your daily life.

September invites us to harvest what matters and release what keeps us small. In this week’s Liberating River™ Podcast, Episode 6: “Stop Energy Drain: Set Boundaries for Peace & Purpose,”I’m sharing what I’ve learned about protecting your energy—not by shutting people out, but by lovingly creating space for what truly matters. Boundaries aren’t barriers; they’re bridges to a life lived in alignment with the purpose God planted inside you.

—————

Why This Matters

Psychology research shows that emotional exhaustion isn’t just “feeling tired.” It’s linked to anxiety, poor memory, and even physical symptoms like headaches and sleep issues. Spiritually, when we allow our energy to leak, our clarity and purpose suffer.

As Dr. Stevan Hobfoll explains in the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory, stress happens when we perceive a threat to our resources. Just like we lock our doors at night to protect our homes, we need energetic locks to protect our spirit.

Without boundaries, even the best intentions—family, work, church, community—can slowly drain the spark that makes you you. This isn’t selfish; it’s sacred stewardship. Your time, your heart, and your calling deserve that protection so you can show up with strength and clarity.

Spiritual Practices

Find a comfortable seat or stand with both feet planted solidly on the floor. Allow your shoulders to drop and your jaw to soften.

Step 1 – Connect with Yourself
Close your eyes and take a gentle scan from the crown of your head down to the soles of your feet. Notice where you’re holding tension—without judging it, simply acknowledge it.

Step 2 – Inhale Light
Breathe in for a slow count of four, imagining a gentle river of golden light rising from the earth. See that light fill every cell, bringing warmth and quiet strength.

Step 3 – Exhale Release
Exhale for a count of six, letting go of every “should,” every hidden obligation, every thought or emotion that isn’t yours to carry. Feel them drift away like leaves on moving water.

Step 4 – Seal Your Circle
Repeat the inhale–exhale cycle three times. With each breath, picture the river of light forming a quiet, luminous circle around you—your personal energetic boundary. This circle is not a wall; it’s a loving buffer that keeps your peace intact while allowing connection.

When you’re ready, gently open your eyes. This tiny three-minute reset can reclaim your sense of calm anytime the world feels too loud and helps you move forward grounded and centered.

5-minute Journaling Prompt

Grab your journal and answer the following questions:

Where in my life do I feel most drained? What signs show me my energy is being compromised?

List one boundary you can lovingly enforce this week—whether it’s pausing notifications during or after dinner or carving out 5 minutes in the morning for deep breathing. Give it a name, and write a single sentence about how keeping this boundary will protect your purpose.

Money Move

Financial Action

Align $ with Purpose

Your finances need boundaries too.

Check where your time leaks = money leaks. Track one area this week where saying “yes” drained you financially. Commit to one boundary that saves money (e.g., limit unpaid work, late-night shopping scroll)

A financial boundary is more than saving money—it’s a tangible reminder that you are stewarding your resources with purpose.

7-Day Micro-Challenge

Your “Energetic Locks” Practice

Protecting your energy is a daily choice. For the next week, treat this challenge like installing gentle “locks” around your spirit.

Day 1 – Name Your Boundary
☑ Journal one boundary you’ll honor this week. Example: “No screens after 9 p.m.” or “Pause before saying yes to new requests.”
💡Write why this boundary protects your peace and purpose.

Day 2 – Prepare the Space
☑ Tell anyone affected (family, coworkers) what you’re practicing so expectations are clear.
💡Notice any guilt or discomfort—simply observe without judging.

Day 3 – First Practice & Quick Reset
☑ Hold the boundary once today. If it’s challenged, pause and take the 3-Minute Ground & Move breathwork from this email.
💡Jot one sentence about how it felt to honor the boundary.

Day 4 – Check Your Energy Levels
☑ Before bed, rate your energy 1–10.
💡Note any new pockets of calm or clarity.

Day 5 – Courage Fund Tie-In
☑ Transfer at least $5 to your Courage Fund or savings goal—show yourself that financial and energetic boundaries go hand in hand.
💡Write: “Each dollar is a vote for my aligned life.”

Day 6 – Share & Encourage
☑ Tell a trusted friend or accountability partner what you’ve experienced.
💡Ask them what boundary they’d like to protect—spread the practice.

Day 7 – Celebrate & Plan Forward
☑ Journal a brief reflection: What shifted in your mind, body, or relationships?
💡Decide whether to keep this boundary next week or add a new one.

Deeper exercise — Naming & Counter-Truth

(10 minutes total)

  1. Write down the sneaky lie that whispers, “Setting boundaries is selfish.”
Now speak the counter-truth out loud:

“Protecting my energy is non-negotiable. It is a way of honoring the purpose God has placed within me.”

Read it each morning and sit with this statement in complete silence for 5 minutes. Let this affirmation re-train the part of you that feels guilty for saying no.
