A note from Wanda:

––––––––––––––––––––

Not every money conversation is about the money itself.
Sometimes it’s about:

  • control

  • security

  • fear

  • or the need to feel safe

And most people don’t realize the difference while it’s happening.

—————

The Pattern

In relationships, money can quietly become a form of emotional positioning.

One person controls the spending.
Another avoids the conversation entirely.
One becomes hyper-responsible.
The other disconnects from financial decisions altogether.

On the surface, it looks like financial behavior.

Underneath it…
there’s usually something deeper.

The Truth

Control and safety are often connected.

When someone does not feel emotionally safe,
they may try to create safety through:

  • control

  • avoidance

  • secrecy

  • over-monitoring

  • financial independence at all costs

Not because they are bad people.
But because the nervous system is trying to protect itself.

—————

What Emotional Safety Looks Like

It’s not agreement all the time.
It’s the ability to:

  • speak honestly without fear of punishment

  • ask questions without shame

  • disagree without emotional withdrawal

  • discuss money without turning the conversation into a power struggle

Safety changes the tone of the conversation.

Hidden Dynamics

Many financial conflicts are not actually about:

  • budgeting

  • saving

  • spending

They are about:

  • who feels heard

  • who feels respected

  • who feels powerless

  • who feels responsible for carrying everything

Money simply becomes the stage where those emotions appear.

—————

The Reframe

Instead of asking:

“Who is right financially?”

Ask:

“Do we feel emotionally safe enough to talk honestly?”

Because without emotional safety,
even practical conversations begin to feel threatening.

The Invitation

Pay attention to this:
When money conversations happen:
“Do you tighten up?”
“Do you shutdown?”
“Do you try to control the outcome”
No judgment. Just awareness.

Because emotional safety changes how relationships experience money.

I’ll share the companion episode on Wednesday when it’s live.

One Gentle Link

This week’s episode continues the Money & Relationships series—exploring emotional safety, control, and the hidden power dynamics that often shape financial conversations.
The companion episode for this letter will be shared on Wednesday when it’s live.

That’s it for this week.

Be gentle on you. Money can reveal control.

But it can also reveal where trust, honesty, and safety still need to grow.

Keep showing up for you. Keep flowing in freedom! 💜
