Small Decisions, Deep Liberation

Welcome

Hi — I’m Wanda.

Thank you for joining Liberating Living Weekly. After more than 20 years helping people align faith and finances, I’ve learned that true freedom isn’t merely an idea — it’s a way of life we practice together. Every Sunday you’ll receive a small dose of support: one simple spiritual practice, a money move you can automate, and a podcast highlight to guide your week.

Today’s issue goes deeper — a full-length edition with practical insight and research-backed tools designed for real transformation. August invites us to harvest what matters and release what keeps us small. This week’s podcast episode (publishing Wednesday) is “Unlocking Blessings — Releasing Religious Baggage & Shame.” Why listen? Practical rituals and hard-won steps to free your spirit and move your money with clarity.

Keep reading for three actionable spiritual practices, a money move you can set on autopilot, and details on joining our waitlist for forthcoming programs and scholarships.

Why This Matters

Many of the burdens we carry are handed down — religious rules, “shoulds,” and shame that feel spiritual but actually shrink us. The good news: short, intentional practices meaningfully change how our minds and bodies respond.

Expressive writing — writing about painful or burdensome experiences helps people process difficult memories and reduces the psychological weight of intrusive thoughts and depressive symptoms — making space for clearer choices. PMC

Simple somatic practices — especially slow, extended exhalations and brief movement — engage vagal pathways and down-regulate the stress response, which makes it easier to feel safe and choose with clarity. Even single sessions of slow, deep breathing show measurable improvements in physiological markers and state anxiety. NaturePMC

Finally, intentionally reinterpreting a situation (cognitive reappraisal) — naming a belief, questioning its origin, and reframing it — is one of the most reliably effective emotion-regulation strategies in the psychological literature. When paired with naming and body-based practice, reappraisal supports lasting shifts in how you respond to faith-based obligations. PMC

Spiritual Practices

1. Name it (10 minutes). Light a candle or sit with tea. Write the first three spiritual beliefs that feel heavy. Ask: “Who told me this? Is it mine to keep?” Cross out one belief and write a counter-truth.

2. Breath + Boundary Reset (3 minutes). Find a quiet seat. Inhale for 4 4seconds / hold for 2 seconds / exhale for 6 seconds — three full cycles. On each exhale imagine a dark thread leaving your body. Finish by saying: “I release what is not mine.” Notice the sensation in your body (tightness, sinking, pressure). Say aloud: “This is not mine to carry.” Write one counter-truth and place it where you’ll see it this week.

3. Sacred Appointment (5 minutes). Choose one small pleasure this week and protect it like an appointment.

5-minute Journaling Prompt

Set a timer for 5 minutes and answer briefly:

  1. What religious rule or belief feels like it costs me more than it gives?

  2. Who gave me that belief? (Name a person, place, or moment.)

  3. What is one small counter-truth I can speak to myself this week? (One sentence.)

Keep that counter-truth somewhere visible for the week (phone lock screen, mirror, or journal).

The Courage Fund

Financial Action

Align $ with Purpose

Why: financial rituals anchor new identity; small transfers make inner permission tangible.
Set up (10 minutes):
  1. Create a sub-savings named Blessing/Courage Fund in your bank or app.

  2. Automate $5 weekly (or $2 if you need smaller). Memo: Blessing — [date].

  3. Use the fund to pay for small investments in alignment (a mentor call, a course, a donation) or let it accumulate towards a retreat.

Practice: Each time you move money into the fund say: “This is my vote for freedom.” Log withdrawals with a one-line note of what the fund enabled.

7-Day Micro-Challenge

Name, Move, & Track

Goal: notice inherited obligation, practice unburdening, and create consistent tiny financial alignment.

Day

Practice Done (Y/N)

One-line Journal

Courage Fund Action

1

Wrote one belief that’s heavy: ___

Set up fund + transfer $5

2

Said aloud: “I release what is not mine”

3

Replaced one “should” with “I choose”

4

Spoke my counter-truth aloud

5

Did a 5-min walk after practice

6

Reached out to one supportive person

7

Review: what shifted? Plan one next step

Reflect & plan

Deeper exercise — Interrogate & Replace

(15 minutes total)

  1. In your journal, write the sentence: “I was taught that ___.” Fill the blank with the belief you named.

  2. Write for 6 uninterrupted minutes about how that belief shows up in your life (choices avoided, money decisions, relationships).

  3. Then write a new sentence: “I now choose ___.” Make it specific and present-tense. Repeat it aloud three times.

This process moves an intellectual critique into a lived truth anchored by voice and body.

Listener Story & Invitation to Reply

A subscriber wrote after last week’s issue: “After the 3-minute ritual I canceled a call that would have drained me and used that hour to pray and plan. It felt holy.” I read every reply — hit reply and tell me one small thing you tried (or one belief you named).

Your message could encourage someone else.
